She said, &amp;quot;I don&amp;#39;t know the names of any plants. What color are they?&amp;quot; I am still marveling. How could anybody get through grade school and not know what a daffodil looked like? Like you, I hope that her experience tending my perennials awakened an interest in gardening. He&amp;#39;s now a yard putzer and is slowly but surely learning his plants! It really does reflect the fact that a lot of urban people live primarily indoors, even if they like to go hiking. It&amp;#39;s not the same as you and I, who lived outdoors every possible minute when growing up. I look back and thank my parents dearly for it.</content><link rel='edit' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/3856440107294939323/8887694923045008483/comments/default/8592867724434365579'/><link rel='self' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/3856440107294939323/8887694923045008483/comments/default/8592867724434365579'/><link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://www.helpinggardenersgrow.com/2010/05/on-knowing-nature-by-name.html?showComment=1274571447484#c8592867724434365579' title=''/><author><name>Harbor Sparrow</name><uri>http://www.blogger.com/profile/16214284306282493116</uri><email>noreply@blogger.com</email><gd:extendedProperty xmlns:gd='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005' name='OpenSocialUserId' value='03950537603453265485'/><gd:image xmlns:gd='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005' rel='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005#thumbnail' width='32' height='24' src='http://www.harbormist.com/pat/images/patSep06small.jpg'/></author><thr:in-reply-to xmlns:thr='http://purl.org/syndication/thread/1.0' href='http://www.helpinggardenersgrow.com/2010/05/on-knowing-nature-by-name.html' ref='tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3856440107294939323.post-8887694923045008483' source='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/3856440107294939323/posts/default/8887694923045008483' type='text/html'/><gd:extendedProperty xmlns:gd='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005' name='blogger.itemClass' value='pid-258270007'/></entry></feed>
